NMC publishes principles for advanced practice

On 20 March 2025, the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) published principles for advanced practices, aimed at nurses and midwives practising at an advanced level. The principles were created to drive a consistent and clear approach to the profession, allowing the public to better understand the roles of advanced practitioners while professionals can be supported in setting clear expectations for their practice. The principles set a distinction between experienced and professional practice, where advanced practice indicates the level of expertise.

MHRA showcases advancements in healthcare

In March 2025, The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency held an event together with funding partners, project sponsors and representatives from the government, academia and industry, to illustrate the new seven Centres of Excellence for Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSIs). Partnerships between the CERSIs will allow for better regulations of AI and MedTech, improve diagnostics and streamline clinical trials, and more innovation for patients and the healthcare system.

DHSC and the Health Research Authority agree on framework document

On 31 March 2025, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Health Research Authority (HRA) agreed on a framework agreement that outlines the government framework governing the two bodies. The framework, which has been approved by HM Treasury, includes the HRA's responsibilities, a description of the governance and accountability between the two bodies and a breakdown of their day-to-day relationship.
