CMA names new senior legal directors

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has recently appointed three new senior legal directors. Lourenço Ventura and Emma Cochrane will join the CMA’s existing team and Richard Romney will take up his current Senior Legal Director role on a permanent basis. Commenting on these appointments, the CMA's General Counsel, Chris Prevett said: "Each of these senior appointments brings substantial expertise, and will add further strength and depth to the senior leadership team and high calibre lawyers and policy professionals comprising the CMA’s Legal Service."

CMA unveils heat maps of businesses in receipt of warnings

For the first time, the CMA has released heat maps highlighting where it has issued warnings to businesses potentially in breach of competition law – the heat maps show the number of letters sent to each region compared to its share of the UK business population.

UK and EU conclude negotiations on Competition Cooperation Deal

The UK government and European Union have concluded negotiations on a new UK-EU Competition Cooperation Agreement. The agreement aims to improve cooperation between the UK's Competition and Markets Authority and the EU's competition authorities. It will allow for greater information sharing and joint enforcement of competition laws across borders. This is expected to benefit businesses and consumers by supporting fair competition. The agreement supplements the existing UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement. It demonstrates the UK's commitment to promoting open and fair competition globally and establishing frameworks for international cooperation between competition authorities.
